Research (or Focus) Areas:
  • The Rogue Valley Genealogical Society (RVGS) is located in Southern Oregon in the Rogue River Valley. Initial settlement in the valley was spurred by a gold strike in Jacksonville Oregon, thus accounting for our logo, the happy miner who represents the activity of digging for gold in genealogy records. RVGS was founded in 1966 and now owns and operates the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society Library, the largest collection of genealogical materials in Southern Oregon.

Research Capabilities

RVGS was founded in 1966 and now owns and operates the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society Library, the largest collection of genealogical materials in Southern Oregon.
*Refer to our card catalog for unique reference books and family histories. Recently as a result of an estate donation, 21 books on Ohio and Hamilton County were added. New additions are published each month in RVGS eNews.
Located near the Applegate Trail, a branch of the Oregon Trail, the library has Jackson County pioneer family files with data and biographies about miners, farmers, entrepreneurs, etc.
*Two members of the German Interest taught classes on finding federal land grant deeds online and locating the land using Bureau of Land Management (BLM) descriptions.
Members of the German Interest Group of RVGS research German-speaking areas such as Prußia, Niedersachsen, Emlanders, Königreich Hannover, Alsace-Lorraine, Palatinate, Rheinland-Pflaz, Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Mecklenburg, Pommerania, Poland, Ukraine, Russian Germans, etc.  Our research is collaborative.
* RVGS volunteers operate the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society Library, the largest genealogy library between Portland and Sacramento, California.
RVGS organizes an annual week-long research trip to the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City, 500 miles away.
* The German Interest Group of RVGS studies history before 1871 to current influence on immigration and emigration.
