IGGP Information and Conference FAQ

Have some questions?  This is your first stop for answers.  This list will continue to change as new questions are asked.
 
What should I wear?  
In July, Minnesota temperatures can reach 90° F at times with high humidity. Facilities will be air-conditioned and can be much cooler, thus dressing in layers is recommended. Recommended dress code is business casual.
 
Can I bring my own food?
In the conference area food must be supplied by hotel catering. Water stations will be set up throughout the conference area.  All hotel rooms in the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest have refrigerators and many have microwaves for their guests to use.
 
Is there a shuttle from the Airport to the Conference hotel?  
There is not a free shuttle between the Airport and the Conference Hotel. Transportation options include SuperShuttle, Uber, or rental cars. Refer to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport Ground Transportation webpage for additional information.
 
SuperShuttle has provided us with a discount code for conference attendees. $28 one-way or $54 round trip. Carpool and it will only be $9 for each additional passenger.
 
Who qualifies for the early bird Partner Society discount on conference registrations?
If you are a current, registered member of any of our partner societies listed on this website, you may register at the discounted price. You need to list the society you are a member of for verification. Please list all societies you are a member of in the notes section of the registration page.

What is the Partnership Leadership Day? 
The International German Genealogy Partnership is made up of organizations and societies that are based in multiple countries. This is our opportunity to make Connections between partner society leaders as we shape the future of the partnership to the benefit of all of our members.  Additional information will be provided to Partner representatives.
 
Is this conference for beginners?
The presentations are for all levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. The registration brochure has them all coded accordingly.
 
Can I order my meals later?
Meal orders may be sent separately, but must be received by June 30th using the conference registration form.
 
Do you have to register to order or attend a meal?
You must be registered for the conference to attend a speaker lunch. You may purchase a box lunch or the breakfast buffet without registering.
 
Do I have to register for the conference to attend the evening events?
Everyone needs to fill out a registration form but you do not need to sign up for the conference to sign up for the evening events.
 
How do I add to my registration?
You need to Retrieve your Registration to add to it. Enter your email address and confirmation number. Then click the button.
 
How do I change items in my registration?
To change items in your registration, please contact the Conference Registrar at conference@iggpartner.org 
 
I'm not staying at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest, is there a shuttle to other hotels?
There will be a conference provided shuttle if you do not have a car. There are four Arbor Lakes Hotels: Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn and Suites, Staybridge Suites and Hampton Inn. They are located in Maple Grove about 3 miles west of the conference center. 
 
Where do I get a list of local restaurants?
The Marriott does have an in-house restaurant, the Wadsworth. The Marriott will provide limited shuttle service within a 5 mile radius. The lunch break will be a generous two hours to allow time to eat, visit our vendors and make connections with Partner Societies and other Attendees.

Nearby research facilities?
Minnesota Historical Society houses a research library Gale Family Library which also gives access to the Minnesota State Archives
Concordia University's Library houses the Germanic Genealogy Society's Library Collection.
The Minnesota Genealogical Society has a research library.  Members of the conference host, GGS, can access this library for free.
 
Minnesota enjoys wonderful public libraries that may house materials of interest to genealogy researchers, especially those researching their Minnesota roots.

How can I volunteer?
On the registration form you can volunteer under General Information. You may simply email volunteer@iggpartner.org
 
Will there be WIFI access at the conference?
Free Wi-Fi is available in the conference center and throughout the hotel.
 
When will the vendor area be open?
Friday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. , Saturday: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday: 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
 
Do I have to pay for a syllabus?
All attendees will be provided access to a PDF syllabus included in their registration price.  If you would prefer to have a printed copy or have it on a flash drive, please indicate on the registration form.
 
When can I pick up my registration packet?
Thursday: 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Friday 6 a.m. - 8 a.m.
 
Where can I learn more about the Biergarten event?
 
What if I can only attend part of the conference?
Unfortunately, there are no partial registrations being accepted for this conference due to limited capacity of the event.
 
Will the conference sessions be recorded?
Yes, we have contracted with Fleetwood Onsite Conference Recordings to record and sell recordings of select conference sessions. The best value will be to order the recordings before or after the conference. See their website, the Conference Program Guide or the Conference Syllabus for a list of the recorded sessions.
